the slug race never stops, my own child's presence has long faded into the background, their silent struggles lost amidst the frantic cheers for the slugs. Their laughter turned into echoes, their cries for attention drowned out by the relentless hum of the slugs and my calls for the sweet relinquish of death. And as they grew, so did the chasm between us, widening with each missed opportunity for connection. Until one day, when I finally looked up, it was too late – my child stood before me, a stranger forged by years of neglect, their once-bright eyes now hollow with resignation. The victory of a slug paled in comparison to the crushing weight of my own obliviousness, a tragedy written in the silent gaps of our fractured relationship.
